I have been reading Plato this last month (May, 2009) and have found the following quotes which I really like:
“Man…is a tame or civilized animal; never the less, he requires proper instruction and a fortunate nature, and then of all animals he becomes the most divine and most civilized; but if he be insufficiently or ill- educated he is the most savage of earthly creatures.”
So, if you find yourself in a position of power, instruct your people sufficiently so that they may become the most divine and civilized of society, lest they will become the most savage of earthly creatures and in the end will turn on their teacher, YOU.
Plato also teaches us
“Never discourage anyone…who continually makes progress, no matter how slow.”
And last, but not least from our old friend Plato:
“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”

IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCEED, TRY, TRY AGAIN
you’re only finished when you quit.
It overcomes almost everything, even nature.
Success is connected with continuous action.
It’s largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go.
for your “failure” is not in the falling down, but in the staying down.
It’s not over until it’s over.
If you’ve got the courage to stick it out, you can win.
